Join Us We are currently seeking good skiers an snowboarders to join our team! If you are interested in joining the Eagle Rock Ski Patrol, stop by for more information or visit the National Ski Patrol site (http://www.nsp.org) to learn more about the requirements and expectations. First Aid skills are not required as we will train successful candidates.
Anyone interested in joining should stop by ski patrol. You can then shadow a patroller for a day, while we let you know a little more about what you can expect and what we expect of patrollers. Candidates typically go through one year of “candidate” status where they will participate in first aid and toboggan handling training. Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) training courses typically happen in the Summer/Fall and are held at various resorts in the Pocono Region or other regions of the National Ski Patrol. OEC typically involves a similar training schedule as most EMT-B level courses. OEC written and practical tests, in addition to ski and toboggan handling tests typically follow the candidate year. EMS and healthcare professionals (RN, MD, PA, EMT) are welcome to apply for challenge tests through the NSP to become OEC certified. After completion of the OEC course and toboggan certification tests, the candidate is eligible to become a full alpine patroller.
If you would like more information about fees, courses, and national requirements, the NSP website (http://www.nsp.org) has a section on joining the patrol. For local requirements, stop by ski patrol at Eagle Rock and a patroller will be happy to talk to you about joining.
BENEFITS OF JOINING In addition to free skiing at Eagle Rock, NSP members have access to numerous promotional offers, discounts, and equipment from emergency providers and ski industry companies. Patrollers also have the benefit of being a vital member of outdoor safety and the EMS system. Members gain access to numerous mountaineering and emergency care courses (such as avalanche training, mountain rescue and emergency management) offered through the National Ski Patrol. But most important is the camaraderie that serving brings. Our patrollers share stories, a love for the outdoors, a passion for skiing and an equal passion for food and fun! Stop by and see what we are all about. |
